Bio

Steve and Kristen Dunbar, along with Jacob and Ellen, are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship serving in Shell, Ecuador. They share that one of the highlights in their ministry is seeing the indigenous churches grow among the peoples of Ecuador.

As a pilot/mechanic, Steve’s main work is flying missionaries, Bible translators, teachers, medical brigades, patients, and cargo. There are other duties as well, and when time permits, he really enjoys visiting nearby communities, sharing his testimony, the Bible, and praying with the local people.

In addition to wife, mom, and hospitality, Kristen enjoys teaching aerobics to the women of Shell. “We do aerobics to contemporary Christian music, and close our time with devotions in Spanish.” Kristen shares that it is a fun way to reach out to many women in the community and to share Christ with them.

Steve was raised in a Christian home in Pittsburgh, PA. Steve shares, “Through my parents’ witness, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was 6 years of age” His parents actively supported missionaries, but a short-term mission trip to Honduras opened his eyes to the needs on the field. His love of God’s creation led him to a degree in Geology from Wheaton College. After this, he received his commercial pilot’s license with instrument rating and an aircraft mechanic’s license from Moody Aviation. He is also a certified flight instructor. A special verse for Steve is II Timothy 1:12. “It is a good reminder to me that we should entrust all to God and that there is no need to worry.”

Kristen grew up in Waco, TX and later moved to PA with her family, where she and Steve met. Although she grew up in a Christian home and attended church regularly, she made a true commitment to Christ when she was in high school. After losing her mom at age 12 and realizing what a void she had in her life, she realized only God could fill that empty space and how much she needed him. Joshua 1:9 is important to Kristen. She says it gives her great motivation to press on in serving the Lord, and that it is a loving reminder that God is ever-present and always available and strong enough to meet our every need.

To fund the worldwide ministry of MAF, God is faithful in providing loyal, generous ministry support from His most caring people. He has called the men and women of MAF to serve Him in a unique way. He is also calling people like you around the world to play a special role in the ministry of MAF.

You are invited to become a ministry partner in this strategic ministry. Please prayerfully consider involvement with Steve and Kristen through prayer and/or financial support.
