Bio

Joey and Kathleen Martin are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship assigned to serve in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a pilot/mechanic family. Isaiah 26:3-4 is a special verse to them: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

Joey was raised in a Christian home in Selma, Alabama. At the age of six, during Vacation Bible School, he accepted the Lord as his Savior. He had always known about missions work and had an interest in aviation. However, it was not until his junior year in high school that he began to think seriously about being a missionary pilot. After graduating from high school, he attended Moody Bible Institute where he received a B.S. in Missionary Aviation Technology. He holds commercial and instructor pilot licenses with instrument ratings and an Airframe and Powerplant certificate.

Kathleen was born in San Diego, California. Her father being in the Navy, she spent her elementary school years on the East Coast before settling in Washington State. Her parents’ active involvement in church and their personal walks with the Lord brought her to a commitment of her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. From that point on she hoped one day to become a missionary. This desire was strengthened through four months spent in France during high school and a two month college internship in a children’s home in Kenya. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a B.A. in International Ministries.

Joey and Kathleen met during their freshman year at Moody and were married on November 12, 2005.

Missionary aviation is close to both Joey and Kathleen’s heart. Joey knows he will be able to help and encourage missionaries and make them more effective in their work. Joey is looking forward to using his skills as a pilot and mechanic to serve the Lord. One of his favorite verses is Psalm 62:5-8, “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Kathleen is also looking forward to working with other missionaries and nationals as she serves with Joey. She hopes to have the opportunity to practice hospitality, and work with children and women in the local community. Her favorite verse is Psalm 139:9-10, “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
