Chuck and Susan Weatherstone, along with their children, Esther, Rebecca, and Joshua, are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. After 19 years of service in Africa, the Weatherstones moved to Guatemala in August 2007, where they are on loan to AGAPE, an MAF affiliate based in Guatemala City, that flies for the church and mission community.

Once Chuck has brushed up on his Spanish, he will be flying and maintaining two small Cessna aircraft, very unlike the larger aircraft he was flying most recently in Mali. He is looking forward to serving alongside Guatemalan Christians. Joshua 24:15 is an important verse to Chuck. “It speaks of making a choice – whom will we serve? While there are other things we could do, other places we could live, we are in Guatemala because we have chosen to serve the LORD.”

Susan's first priority in Guatemala is to learn Spanish. After that, she is open to the Spirit's leading to do whatever He has for her. One of the highlights of her years in Africa was the ministries she enjoyed with nationals, especially through her women's Bible study and her involvement with the Mali Well Project. Susan is excited about having helped to bring clean drinking water to various villages through the wells that were dug there. And to know that 162 Malians also made first-time commitments to Jesus Christ in 2007 alone, through the well project.

Susan shares, “In Ephesians 3:18 and 19, Paul prays that the Ephesian Christians ‘may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.’ What a joy it has been to witness how God transformed the lives of the new believers in Africa, as they began to understand the depth of His love for them in Christ Jesus. I pray that we will witness the same thing in Guatemala.”

Chuck was born in San Diego, California. His mother taught him Bible verses which explained how to become a Christian. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at age four. After high school Chuck spent a year in Mexico with missionaries and during that time recommitted his life to Christ. He attended Biola University for one year, and then transferred to Orange Coast College for a two year A&P mechanics course. He went on to attend Christian Heritage College, graduating with a BA in missionary aviation.

Susan was born and grew up in North Carolina. She committed her life to the Lord at age 15, when a Sunday school teacher helped her understand her need for a personal relationship with Christ. Susan graduated from the University of North Carolina with a BA in English and went on to earn her Masters in Linguistics from the University of Texas.

Susan joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and was assisting in an introductory linguistics course in 1981 when she met Chuck, who was one of her students. After serving one term with Wycliffe in Papua New Guinea, she and Chuck were married in 1987.

Their oldest child, Esther, attends Liberty University in Virginia. Rebecca and Joshua live at home, and are students at the Christian Academy of Guatemala.
