Bio

Brian and Esther Writebol are new missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship assigned to Africa. Joining the MAF family as a maintenance specialist, Brian looks forward to serving the local missionaries and nationals by maintaining flight operations through his technical abilities. Esther anticipates getting involved and serving in the community in any way she can and hopes to teach NILD, a program for children with learning disabilities. One of their favorite Bible verses is, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 86:11.

Brian was born in Denver, Colorado. After three major moves, his family settled in Charlotte, North Carolina. Brian’s parents, heavily involved in their local church, and their pastor were instrumental in Brian’s decision to commit his life to Christ at a young age. Brian became involved in his church youth group and school activities. It was during this time he was introduced to missions, both locally and globally. Brian participated in many local, short-term mission trips as well as summer trips to Russia. During Brian’s senior year in high school, his parents became missionaries in Quito, Ecuador, where he completed his final year of school. While in Ecuador, Brian was introduced to MAF and felt the Lord leading him to serve in aviation-related ministries. Brian attended Moody Aviation where he earned his airframe and powerplant license and gained valuable experience maintaining small aircraft. He graduated in May 2005, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following graduation, Brian worked at a small airport, in Worthington, MN, gaining more maintenance experience.

Esther was born in McAllen, Texas, while her parents were at language school preparing to go to Ecuador for missionary service. When she was just three months old, her family moved to Shell-Mera, Ecuador. After living there for 13 years, her family moved to the capital city, Quito, where her parents became dorm parents at the MK boarding school. Esther gave her life to Christ as a young girl after an AWANA meeting. Her parents were very influential in her decision and led her in prayer to give her life to Christ. At age 13, Esther was baptized by her father. Esther spent her elementary school years attending Nate Saint Memorial School in Shell, Ecuador. In Quito, she attended Alliance Academy, graduating in 2000. Esther graduated from Simpson University in Redding, CA, in 2004, with a major in Liberal Arts and a Minor in Bible.

Brian and Esther met in high school at the Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador. Six years later, they were married in Charlotte, NC, on June 19, 2004.
