MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support to carry out its mission and care for its staff.

Joe and Karen Adams, along with their children Grace and Timothy, are privileged to serve with Mission Aviation Fellowship in the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Joe uses his vocation as a pilot and mechanic to tangibly share Christ’s love with isolated people in Lesotho by providing safe and efficient transportation for doctors and nurses serving the mountain clinics and by providing medical evacuations for critical patients. He is also privileged to provide flights for the Lesotho Flying Pastors who are bringing the gospel and planting churches in the remotest parts of the country. Since 2019 he has been serving on the board of the Lesotho Flying Pastors, encouraging collaboration and implementation of strategic vision.

Karen continues to focus on being a mom to their two children, Grace and Timothy. Her passion for building relationships also leads her to a variety of activities for the MAF team as well as to the ministry of showing the love of Jesus among the Basotho. She is especially fulfilled by hosting Bible studies and volunteering with a home for trafficked and at-risk girls in Maseru.

Joe was born in Pullman, Washington, and grew up working on his family farm and in the family veterinary biotechnology business. Through church and the guidance of his Christian parents, he accepted Jesus as his Savior as a small child. In his early teen years, he realized the need to devote his life to God’s service, whatever that entailed. Through his education at Moody Bible Institute, he received an appreciation and respect for missions. While working in his family’s business, he attained a pilot’s certificate to enhance business opportunities. During his flight training, Joe learned about mission aviation and how it fulfills both physical and spiritual needs of isolated people. In 2013, Joe realized that the Lord was calling him in this direction, so he left his position in the business, obtained A&P and flight instructor certifications and joined MAF in 2017.

Karen was born in Spokane, Washington, and grew up in Pullman. She received Christ as a child and believes in the power of God to transform lives through His love, grace and forgiveness. Karen honed her passion for customer service through her experiences working in her parents’ food service business, as a customer service manager, and as a server at a Portland restaurant. Karen has been gifted with a heart for helping others and desires for others to see their value in God’s eyes. She enjoys using her love of cooking to teach Basotho youth and host teammates, visitors and locals in her home.

Joe and Karen have been married since 2007. They are inspired to live out the gospel in Lesotho by the words of Micah 6:8,

“This is what the Lord requires from you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to live humbly with your God.”

God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Adams’ ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
