Roger and Barbara Clark and their children, Carol, Thomas and Robert, are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship serving at the headquarters in Nampa, ID. Prior to moving to the USA, the Clarks served in Lesotho, Africa. The Clarks were in Lesotho beginning in July 2005. Their three kids have spent most of their lives there, so in many ways, Lesotho is “home” to the Clark family.
As a mechanic with Mission Aviation Fellowship Roger worked with the Lesotho Flying Doctor Service in the remote, tiny mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Roger’s work days look a lot like each other, the months look a lot like each other, and the years look very similar as well! But that’s a good thing! As Chief Mechanic, Roger’s job is to keep five airplanes in safe, airworthy and good condition so that each day MAF pilots can transport sick patients, doctors, nurses, missionaries and aid workers doing the work of the Gospel. He hopes to continue with consistent, high quality airplane maintenance so that the Gospel will continue to be spread throughout Lesotho via MAF airplanes.
1 John 3:18-20 are special verses for Roger. “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”
Barbara shares, “As we minister and share our lives with friends and local people in Lesotho, I hope they will see the great things that God is doing and how blessed we feel to be a part of that. I hope that the people we come in contact with will see how great God is and how much He loves them. My constant goal is to live in the present, in His presence and to not regret things of the past or worry about things of the future.”
Psalm 115:1 encourages Barbara in this goal. “Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory because of your love and faithfulness.”
Roger was born in Southern California and his mother led him to the Lord when he was six. He attended Community College in San Luis Obispo, CA, and Bible school in Cannon Beach, OR. He received a B.S. in Aviation Maintenance at Moody Bible Institute and holds an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License.
Barbara was born in Boulder, CO. During her sophomore year in high school, she attended Campus Crusade for Christ’s Student Venture. She filled out a comment card stating she wanted more information and was led to the Lord a month later by one of their representatives. Barbara also attended Bible school in Cannon Beach, OR. Before she became a mother, she worked in publishing and at a Christian bookstore.
Roger and Barbara met as summer staff at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center in California. They were married in June 1991.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Roger and Barbara’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Ministry Partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
The U.S. offices of MAF serve as a hub for MAF services worldwide. A day in the life here includes specialized flight training, staff mobilization and counseling, purchasing and shipping of aircraft parts, finance and accounting, administration of an Internet gateway for worldwide email, fund raising, printing and mailing of various materials, and many, many more activities. Some staff serve around the country; training future pilots and mobilizing potential candidates to serve with MAF.
MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support in the exercise of its mission and care of its staff.
