MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support to carry out its mission and care for its staff.
Joel and Christy Geaslen are thrilled to embrace the opportunity to serve God through Mission Aviation Fellowship. As a pilot, Joel will be using his skills to reach some of the most isolated places with Christ’s love. He will be transporting national church pastors, Bible translators, and humanitarian aid, as well as flying emergency medical evacuations. Christy desires to be a stay-at-home mom to their four children while also sharing the gospel with the local community and using her skills as a nurse to help whenever possible.
Joel was raised in Apple Creek, Ohio. Having grown up in a Christian home, Joel committed his life to Christ as a young teenager. He then followed God’s calling on his heart to serve in missions by going on numerous short-term mission trips. While in high school, he moved with his parents to Kosovo, Yugoslavia, to plant churches. He felt God’s calling to full-time missions through aviation after attending a Missions at the Airport event. Joel attended LeTourneau University and earned a degree in aviation. Since graduating in 2007, he has worked as a flight instructor and professional pilot.
Christy was raised in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in a Christian home. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age. She went on her first overseas mission trip at age 13 and fell in love with the various aspects of serving cross-culturally. While attending college at LeTourneau University, she felt God tugging at her heart to pursue a life in cross-cultural ministry. After receiving a degree in Christian ministry from LeTourneau University, she continued her education and received a degree in nursing from University of Texas in 2013. Christy worked as a nurse in women’s services for three years before joining MAF.
Joel and Christy met at LeTourneau University. They became close friends while serving in student ministries and planning student-led mission trips. Their mutual desire to serve Christ as full-time missionaries drew their hearts together, and they were married soon after graduation in 2008. They have been blessed with four amazing children—Hope, Ezra, Mia, and Elijah. Currently they are in language school in Salatiga, Indonesia, preparing to serve in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Geaslen’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
