MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support to carry out its mission and care for its staff.
Matthew and Carolyn Monson are from the northwestern area of Washington State, serving the Lord in Lesotho, southern Africa. Shortly after God captured their hearts in their early 20s and they got married, Matthew and Carolyn felt a calling to MAF. God confirmed their desire by opening many doors and paving a path for Matthew’s development as a commercial pilot and aviation mechanic. They have been in Lesotho since September 2013. God’s provision in their training is a testimony that continues to encourage them today. “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
Matthew has a passion for the local language, Sesotho, striving to increase his ability to share the Gospel with the local people. One of his favorite opportunities as a MAF pilot is flying a group of local pastors to the isolated mountains. Matthew has built a relationship with the chief of one of the most remote villages they fly to and loves their time reading and studying God’s Word together. In addition, Matthew became the Lesotho program manager in 2018.
Carolyn is a stay-at-home mom and enjoys homeschooling their three delightful children, Caleb, Chloe, and Maya. She also volunteers for MAF events and offers loving hospitality to guests. Currently, she partners with and supports the small business of a Mosotho woman who makes colorful handbags and aprons for income.
Carolyn and Matthew have also been developing relationships with several teenage boys, hosting weekly Bible studies and transporting them to church. Through this opportunity, they have been blessed to watch many strengthen and give their lives to the Lord. Matthew and Carolyn are overflowing with thankfulness to God for enabling their work with MAF, “They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and tell of Your power, to make known to the children of man Your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom.” (Psalm 145:11-12)
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Matthew and Carolyn’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
