Katherine is a missionary teacher with Mission Aviation Fellowship at Hillcrest School in Papua, Indonesia.
Katherine was raised in a Christian home and spent her early years in the small town of Snoqualmie, Washington. During this time, her parents had an ongoing ministry in Fall City as owners of a Christian bookstore. At the age of five, Katherine made a personal commitment to the Lord which was nurtured through her family, church, and visiting missionaries. At the age of 11, Katherine was baptized, and through her adolescence and college years, she was active in youth groups and campus ministries. Through these ministries, she was able to participate in many short-term mission trips including house building and VBS in Mexico and campus ministry in California.
After graduating from Western Washington University with a B.A. in history and English, Katherine spent time in Seoul, South Korea, teaching ELL (English Language Learner Program), before returning to Washington to complete a master’s degree in teaching. For six years she was a public high school teacher in Duvall, Washington. In the four years following, Katherine was a teacher with MAF serving in Papua, Indonesia, first at the small satellite school in Wamena and then at the main campus in Sentani. Following her experience with MAF, Katherine continued to work in Christian education in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
For the past two school years, Katherine has again been serving with MAF as a teacher back in Sentani. She has enjoyed being part of the secondary team, teaching humanities courses, advising the class of 2021, and participating in high school activities such as Beach Trip and Outdoor Education. This past year she also became part of the leadership team as the high school lead teacher and the advisor of Student Council.
Throughout her professional life and personal relationships, Katherine has seen God at work. Over the years, she has had the privilege to work with teachers and students of many different nationalities and backgrounds, and it has cemented in her heart the truth that everyone needs a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She has seen lives changed, sometimes very quickly and dramatically, by this one decision.
One of Katherine’s favorite verses is Isaiah 41:9-10, “I took you from the ends of the earth; from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” These verses remind her that God has a plan for her life and will be with her in the good times as well as the trying times. All things are possible through Christ.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Katherine’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with her through prayer and/or financial support.
MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support in the exercise of its mission and care of its staff.
