After graduating from Western Washington University with a B.A. in history and English, Katherine spent time in Seoul, South Korea, teaching ELL (English Language Learner Program), before returning to Washington to complete a master’s degree in teaching. After teaching at a public high school in Washington for some time, Katherine became a teacher with MAF serving in Papua, Indonesia for four years, first teaching at the small satellite school in Wamena and then at the main campus in Sentani. Following her experience with MAF, Katherine continued to work in Christian education in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
For the past three school years, Katherine has again been serving with MAF as a teacher back in Sentani. She has enjoyed being part of the secondary team, teaching humanities courses, advising students, and participating in high school activities such as Beach Trip and Outdoor Education. This past year she also became part of the leadership team as the high school lead teacher and the advisor of Student Council.
Throughout her professional life and personal relationships, Katherine has seen God at work. Over the years, she has had the privilege to work with teachers and students of many different nationalities and backgrounds, and it has cemented in her heart the truth that everyone needs a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She has seen lives changed, sometimes very quickly and dramatically, by this one decision.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Katherine’s ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with her through prayer and/or financial support.
