MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support to carry out its mission and care for its staff.
Greatly influenced by the concept of holistic ministry in the book of James, Tim and Liz are grateful to serve the Lord in both word and deed. Tim works at MAF as a financial analyst. He compiles, analyzes, and provides vital information about MAF’s finances for field programs and leaders to ensure wise and godly stewardship of the organization’s funds.
“And if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:10-11
Born in southern California, Tim spent his childhood years in the majestic redwoods of northern California before moving as a teenager with his family to the high desert of southern Idaho. Raised in a loving Christian family, he accepted Jesus into his heart as a young child. After a short-term missions trip to Venezuela and the completion of a B.S. in business at Northwest Nazarene University, Tim felt the Lord calling him to a graduate M.B.A. program in International Economic Development at Eastern University in Philadelphia in 2003. During the program, Tim spent several months in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama, as the Lord confirmed Tim’s call into international ministry. It was also during this time that Tim met Liz. They were married in August 2004. Tim enjoys many outdoor activities, including snowboarding, backpacking, scuba diving, and fly-fishing.
Born into a pastor’s home in New Jersey, Liz spent her preschool years in Scotland, and with the help of her mother, accepted the Lord as her Savior at age five. At age seven, she and her family moved to Melbourne, Australia, where her parents were missionaries with the Wesleyan church. When Liz was in high school, her family moved back to Houghton, NY, where she attended high school and college. Liz greatly enjoyed the opportunities she had to travel to Russia, Europe, Central America, and East Africa during this time. It was during her travels that she felt a clear call towards serving the Lord internationally. After graduating from Houghton College in 2003, with a B.A. in Intercultural Studies and Missions, Liz attended Eastern University, earning an M.B.A. in International Economic Development in 2004. Liz loves to cook, read, garden, and travel.
The U.S. offices of MAF serve as a hub for MAF services worldwide. A day in the life here includes specialized flight training, staff mobilization and counseling, purchasing and shipping of aircraft parts, finance and accounting, administration of an Internet gateway for worldwide email, fund raising, printing and mailing of various materials, and many, many more activities. Some staff serve around the country; training future pilots and mobilizing potential candidates to serve with MAF.
