Clay and Becky Walter are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Clay shares that being a maintenance specialist allows him to combine his God-given skills and passion for serving others while obeying His calling in Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
The Walters served 6 years in one of our restricted-access programs and 4 years at MAF headquarters in Nampa, Idaho. They then spent 3 years on-loan to the MAF International team in Papua New Guinea, filling a much-needed gap in the engineering department. They had to return to the States suddenly to deal with the leukemia diagnosis of their son Brian but have accepted a new assignment at MAF headquarters. Clay is serving as the Maintenance Control Manager, supporting MAF’s many programs around the world. He helps to make sure all the planes in MAF’s fleet are being correctly maintained, and gives support to mechanics on the field when maintenance issues arise. Becky is serving as a Ministry Partnership Coach, helping to prepare and guide prefielders during their initial support-raising journey, and supporting about 40 of MAF’s missionaries around the world in continuing to maintain their support level.
Clay and Becky continue parent Seth, Brian and Taylor, juggling three school schedules as well as Brian’s medical appointments as he continues treatment for high-risk leukemia. Becky shares that I Corinthians 15:58 is one of her favorite verses: “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” The Walter family have all seen God’s hand at work wherever He places them.
Clay was raised in a loving Christian home in East Greenville, PA. Through the strong biblical teaching of his home church and the explanation and encouragement of his mother, Clay accepted Christ as a five-year-old. With a strong mechanical aptitude, he took the Larry Burkett Career Direct Test during high school. The Lord used this in his life for guidance and direction. He shares that he has “not looked back since.” He graduated from Moody Bible Institute, in Chicago, IL, in 2003 with a B.S. in Missionary Aviation Technology. One of his favorite Scriptures is Revelation 22:12: “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.” He shares, “This is a reminder of the promise that Christ is coming soon.”
Becky was born and raised in Lansdale, PA. She accepted Christ at a young age, benefiting from the blessing of a Christian home and strong church. Exposed to missions at a very young age through family members on the mission field, as well as correspondence with a devoted missionary nurse from her home church, she felt called to missions even in the second grade. She pursued that goal with a mission major at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in the Walters’ ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
