MAF missionaries raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related ministry expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of missionary support to carry out its mission and care for its staff.

Stephen and Haley Weiland have a vision to see impactful change in people’s lives for Christ. As a maintenance specialist, Stephen will keep the planes in good working order for the pilots and missionaries to reach isolated people and share Christ’s love. Using the tools of aviation training and cross-cultural experience, the Weilands hope to reach the lives of the people God places around them through discipleship, maintenance of MAF’s aircraft, and ministry opportunities that God presents.

Stephen was born and raised in a small town in rural central Indiana. He became a Christian at an early age. Growing up, Stephen not only had his parents to bring questions to, but also his grandparents and his great-grandparents, all of them strong pillars of faith. Stephen’s family always supported missionaries, and it was common for those who were on furlough from Africa or South America to come and stay with them for a week. Stephen first heard of MAF through a pilot who flew in Papua. Initially he was planning on becoming a robotics engineer, but God changed his course, and he took an interest in missions while attending Moody Aviation in Spokane. After graduation, Stephen was able to gain valuable aviation experience while working at Moody and Empire Airlines.

Haley was born in Salem, Oregon. God took hold of her heart while in elementary school. She was most influenced by her parents and teachers in Sunday school, where she learned God’s grace and truth and grew in her faith. Through a combination of short-term mission trips and study abroad, Haley felt a strong conviction and desire to pursue ministry to women and their families. In 2019 Haley graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Spokane with a bachelor’s in intercultural studies and Bible training.

Stephen and Haley met through their home church in Spokane. Their relationship grew through mutual friends, Bible studies together, and service in the church. The two were married in March 2019 and welcomed Addelyn Grace into their family in 2021.

The Weilands are grateful for opportunities that God has orchestrated in their lives and are excited to see how He leads them. God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways.  He may also be calling you to a special role in Stephen and Haley’s ministry.  Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
