A Day in the Life of an MAF Wife

For the next few weeks, the MAF wives will be sharing day-in-the-life snapshots of life overseas, or thoughts about ministry, family, and faith. Their daily routines differ from one location to the next. Follow along here to find out what out what the wives of MAF pilots and mechanics are up to.  Today, Linda recounts a typical weekday in Sentani, Papua.

5:30 a.m. – Get up slowly, and spend a few minutes in prayer before the day starts.

6:00 a.m. – Dave wakes up the boys, and I get breakfast ready. We make sure the boys pack lunches, and get themselves ready for school.

7:00 a.m. – See the boys off to the blue MAF bus that takes them from base to school.

7:30 a.m. – See Dave off for work, finish cleaning up breakfast, and sit down to do my Bible study.

8:30 a.m. – Try and do a few abdominal exercises (ouch!) and then shower.

9:00 a.m. – Check in with my helper, and give her instructions for the day; make sure my yard worker has water, a snack, and money for lunch.

9:20 a.m. – Sit down and write an e-mail to several MAF families who will take turns staying in our house next week while we are gone. They will be coming to Sentani from the other bases to do their annual immigration fingerprinting trip, and the Guest House is full.

10:00 a.m. – Work on our MAF Christmas newsletter.

12:15 p.m. – Make sure my helper gets her lunch, then fix my own. Dave has a lunch engagement today so he won’t be eating at home.

12:45 p.m. – Try and catch a quick nap and refocus on the Lord.

1:30 p.m. – Drive to Natalie’s house, along with Christy (both MAF wives), for our weekly prayer time together.

3:15 p.m. – Scoot back down to base with Christy in the car, narrowly avoiding being hit by a motorcycle! Thank you, Jesus!

3:25 p.m. – Arrive home, the boys are already here. CJ has a friend over so they can film a short movie for a school project. Ryan finishes his homework and invites the base boys over to play.

3:45 p.m. – Start cooking dinner (rice, honey mustard chicken, green beans, and papaya).

5:30 p.m. – Dave comes home from the office, and our dinner guests arrive. We enjoy a meal together.

7:00 p.m. – Finished up dessert with our guests, just in time for the high school base boys to come over for their weekly Bible study that Dave leads. Spend time reading with Ryan and getting him to bed.

8:00 p.m. – Bible study over, show Christmas newsletter to Dave and work on it together.

9:30 p.m. – Get to bed!
