The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is the second largest country in Africa, and is home to over 200 ethnic groups. MAF has been serving the area since 1966.

The vision trip to the eastern side of the country is a very unique and exclusive opportunity only offered to key MAF supporters. This is your chance to get a true feel for the conditions, challenges, and opportunities MAF missionaries face in our programs in eastern DRC. And you’ll get to witness firsthand how your partnership with MAF is bringing help, hope, and healing to the isolated in the name of Christ.

Itinerary

DAYS 1-2: TRAVEL DAYS (SATURDAY-SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2-3)

  • Group arrives together into Entebbe, Uganda
  • Lodging at Protea Hotel, Entebbe on Victoria Lake

DAY 3: BUKAVU (MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4)

  • MAF flight from Entebbe to Bukavu, DRC (2 hour flight)
  • Visit Ponzi Hospital (1.5 hour drive from airport)
  • Visit City of Joy
  • Lodging in Bukavu at Orchards Safari Club Hotel

DAY 4: EPULU PARK (TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5)

  • MAF flight to Epulu Park (1.8 hours)
  • Visit with Wildlife Conservation Group
  • Forrest Walk
  • MAF flight to Bunia via a stop in Nyankunde (1 hour flight)
  • Lodging at Bunia Executive Lodge

DAY 5: BUNIA (WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6)

  • Tour MAF base
  • Presentation by Country Director/Regional Director on an overview of MAF programs in DRC
  • Lunch with expat and national staff
  • Visit a camp for internally displaced persons
  • Dinner with the MAF expat staff families in their homes

DAY 6: BENI/MURCHINSON FALLS (THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7)

  • MAF flight to Beni (30 minute flight)
  • Visit OEIL (Organisation, Evangélisation, Intercession et Libération, a reconciliation ministry)
  • MAF flight to Kajjansi Airfield via Entebbe (1.5 hour flight)
  • Visit MAF-International hangar and operations in Uganda
  • MAF-International flight to Murchinson Falls (1 hour flight)
  • Loding at Marasa (Paraalodge)

DAY 7: MURCHINSON FALLS (FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8)

  • Morning boat ride
  • Sightseeing in the park
  • Time to debrief the trip

DAY 8: MURCHINSON FALLS/END OF VISION TRIP (SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9)

  • Sightseeing in park in the morning
  • MAF-International flight to Kajjansi Airfield (1 hour flight)
  • Van ride from Kajjansi Airfield to Entebbe
  • Friends depart for the US on evening flights

DAY 9: TRAVEL DAY (SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10)

  • Arrive at home

Pricing & Registration

Price: $6,500 per individual or $11,000 per couple; price includes roundtrip airfare from a major U.S. airport to Entebbe, Uganda, all other MAF airfare for the duration of the trip, shared double room hotel accommodations (or single if traveling alone) for the duration of the trip, all meals during the trip and in route to/from Uganda between 11/2 - 11/10, all other in-country transportation fees while traveling in Congo/Uganda between 11/2 - 11/10; tips for food and transportation between 11/2 – 11/10; lodging and outings in Murchison Falls, Uganda. Entry visas and travel insurance will also be covered.

Not included in price: Additions/changes to standard program; alcoholic beverages; room service; immunizations; souvenirs; excess baggage. Any additional travel insurance you desire.

Registration: To reserve your spot on the vision trip, please contact Shauna Strauch for instructions before sending your check to notify her of your interest at sstrauch@maf.org or 208-498-0874. A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 will be required to reserve your spot.

Full payment of $6,500 per individual or $11,000 per couple is due by July 31, 2024. Please make checks payable to MAF and send to: MAF, Attn: Shauna Strauch at PO Box 47, Nampa, ID 83653.

Cancellations: Cancellations before and after the registration deadline will be eligible for a full refund less the $1,000 deposit and any non-refundable bookings MAF has already purchased on your behalf, including, but not limited to, commercial airline tickets and hotel reservations.

Terms and Conditions

All vision trip participants must be in good physical and mental health, ambulatory, and fully able to participate in most trip activities. Anyone requiring assistance must be accompanied by an individual able and willing to provide the necessary support at all times. Wheelchairs are NOT readily available.

Minimum age of participant: 18 as of date of travel.

Luggage: Limit of one suitcase and one carry on per person. There is no porterage service included in the cost of the trip. Traveling light is highly recommended due to the number of MAF flights where weight is limited.

Itinerary changes and flexibility: MAF pledges to make every effort to carry out all trips as published. However, travel in the developing world often is full of surprises requiring flexibility and adaptability.

General conditions and responsibility: MAF shall at no time be liable or responsible in any way for any loss, injury, or damage caused or arising in connection with any transportation, hotel, or other services or products provided through MAF, or as a result of acts of God, acts of government or other authorities, wars, civil disturbances, hijacks, thefts, or any circumstance beyond our control. Participants will also be required to sign MAF policy documents pertaining to Child Safe-Guarding, Personal Safety and Security Informed Consent, Overseas Burial Informed Consent, and other documents deemed necessary by MAF leadership.
