Remaining Steadfast and Being Strategic

MAF Introduces a New Strategic Plan

Scripture tells us it is wise to plan, but we cannot predict the future. (Ecclesiastes 8:7)

Mission Aviation Fellowship, from its beginning, has been guided by the Holy Spirit speaking to faithful leaders with heart for reaching the lost. In each country where we serve, Godly men and women develop strategic goals to address the needs of our partner organizations, working within the local culture and context. This way of ministering has always been quite effective.

In early 2011, MAF leadership took first steps toward the creation of a global road map to guide the future of the organization. Scenario Planning allowed the strategic planning team to envision possible paths MAF might follow. A Position Paper explored key assumptions and trends in global ministry, and defined the process necessary for development of an effective strategic plan. These were but two parts of the complex process that involved key personnel from within the ministry and without, resulting in the MAF 2013-2015 Strategic Plan.

The planning team believes we have developed a plan that is based on the careful discernment of all critical factors and has built in the agility needed to minister in an ever-changing ministry environment. We believe it will shape the culture of MAF. Perhaps most importantly, we believe the people of MAF can successfully execute this plan even as we continue to update it and keep it relevant.

This plan is a living document – a rolling three-year plan that will be reviewed, revised and updated on an annual basis. This is an important point to remember as we believe we have laid the foundation for the successful execution of this plan, all to the glory of God.

MAF’s greatest contribution to the Kingdom will be in regards to the Gospel – more than anything else. Everything in the strategic plan document is about His Kingdom so, if the ultimate aim of mission is to glorify His name, then we need to remain steadfast in our focus on the Great Commission.

In closing, some wonderful words from Billy Graham.

The evangelistic harvest is always urgent. The destiny of men and nations is always being decided. Every generation is strategic. We are not responsible for the past generation, and we cannot bear the full responsibility for the next one; but we do have our generation. God will hold us responsible as to how well we fulfill our responsibilities to this age and take advantage of our opportunities.”
