Since 1986, MAF has been maximizing the effectiveness of Christian workers and agencies serving in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. MAF missionary families, with the help of Haitian staff members, operate and maintain three aircraft, servicing 13 airstrips from a base of operations in Port-au-Prince.
Haiti is a small country on the western side of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Poverty and voodoo have a tight grip on the lives of Haitians, many of whom live in extremely remote areas with poor infrastructure and little access to the outside world. In recent years, MAF has helped bring relief to the Haitian people after devastating natural disasters—the 2010 earthquake, and Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
