The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is the second largest country in Africa by land size and the fourth most populous. MAF has served in this massive country—roughly half the size of the eastern US—since 1961, when the country was Zaïre.
The DRC consistently ranks near the bottom of the UN’s ranking for health, education, and development. The average life expectancy is 59 years and the majority of the people only receive around six years of education. There are still many in this country who have never heard the gospel and the young Congolese churches are still finding their footing and identity.
